Gorsepaw

“Go!” Morningflower screamed hysterically. “Hide in the nursery! You’re too young for this!” She rolled to avoid Russetfur’s swipe, and raked her claws down his pelt.

“No! I can do this!” Gorsepaw yelled, locked in fierce battle with a RiverClan apprentice. “I’m not a kit anymore!”

Morningflower opened her mouth to argue, but instead dived past Russetfur to grab Gorsepaw and drag him to safety. Just as she was about to reach him Tigerstar grabbed him by the scruff and dashed away. “TigerClan warriors, come to me!” His meow echoed across the clearing. Battle ceased as his cats assembled themselves around him and the helpless apprentice. Morningflower was already there, fighting fiercely with Blackfoot, trying desperately to break through. All other thought left her mind as she put all her strength into trying to get past the sleek black warrior. Again Tigerstar’s voice rang out, "Cats of WindClan!" Morningflower fought harder than ever, Onewhisker and her barely holding their own against three RiverClan cats and Blackfoot. “Let this apprentice be an example to you all. This is what those who oppose TigerClan can expect”.

Morningflower turned, and watched in horror as her lips parted in an agonized yowl and her muscles prepared for one last, frantic attempt to save her son. Tigerstar pinned the apprentice down with one massive paw and swiped his other down Gorsepaw’s side. Gorsepaw howled for one last time and stopped struggling. “Now, TigerClan, let’s go.” He sprinted out of the camp, the others close behind. WindClan let them pass, to weak and devastated to put up a fight. Morningflower buried her nose in her son’s pelt and lay down, lost in grief.
